The radio moves to the top of the center stack and the air vents relocate below it. That change involves more than the visible face of the bezel: included 3D-printed AC ducting routes air behind the dash to the new vent position.
Hazard and defrost controls can relocate either left of the driver or below the AC vents on the bezel, using the included wiring. Bottom switches can be moved to different switch panels using custom mounts.
Choose the radio and lower-panel configuration as parts of one layout. The photos show the arrangement, while the product options establish which equipment you are selecting.
Single DIN
The DASH KIT uses a single-DIN opening. No single-DIN version includes a radio, so this choice requires you to purchase your own head unit.
The opening format is a starting point, not a blanket compatibility guarantee. Radio body, display and mounting differences still need to be checked for the actual unit you choose.
MVP / 10-inch
MVP is the 10-inch display configuration. Choose it with a supplied head unit or without one, depending on the radio route you want to take.
With a no-head-unit option, you must purchase your own radio and confirm compatibility. With a supplied unit, review the development-stage software and specification notes below.
PRO / 13.1-inch
PRO is the 13.1-inch display configuration, offering the larger of the two listed screen sizes. It is offered with or without a supplied head unit.
Choose the head-unit option deliberately. Screen size alone does not tell you which hardware comes with the kit, and customer-supplied radios are not automatically compatible.
Before choosing a head unit
Compatibility is not guaranteed for customer-supplied radios, including single-DIN radios. Ruby can help select suitable options and plans to provide a known-compatible list when available.
The radio options above describe the configurations, not current stock availability. Use the product selector and purchase controls for the current status of your selection.
The lower panel gives the kit another area to configure around your build. Bottom switches can move to different switch panels using custom mounts, while the standard storage cubby provides the default storage option.
The wireless charger is an optional upgrade. It is not standard in every kit, and all other accessories are sold separately. Review your selection instead of assuming every accessory shown in an installed photo is included.
The core parts, with the optional equipment kept separate.
A 3D-printed center bezel, fully epoxy coated, primed, painted, and clear-coated.
3D-printed AC ducting routes air to the relocated vents.
Wiring to relocate the hazard and defrost buttons either left of the driver or below the AC vents on the bezel.
The storage cubby is standard. Choose the optional wireless charger if that better suits your setup.
The current version
The DASH KIT preorder is centered on the 1996–1998 Toyota 4Runner version of the center-dash conversion. It covers the bezel-and-duct layout described here, with radio and lower-panel choices determined by the configuration selected.
Versions for 1999 and later model years are planned separately. They are not part of this version, and no release date has been announced for them.
Production planning
The planned production capacity is 15 kits per month, managed manually by Ruby. This is a production-planning figure, not a promise of a particular delivery date or a reserved place in a queue.
A release-list signup does not consume a production slot. Order availability and any preorder opening are separate from expressing interest in the kit.
Before placing an order
Start with the correct vehicle year, then choose the radio configuration and whether you want a supplied head unit. Review the optional charger and any separate accessories before placing an order.
Supplied MVP and PRO head units are planned to run Project Ruby Offroad software. That software is still under development, and full custom-supplier head-unit specifications are still being finalized. Screenshots, interface and features may change through preorder.
Release list explained
The release list records your interest only. Joining is not a preorder or purchase, does not reserve a production slot, and does not guarantee availability. No automatic email is sent.
The product controls show the current purchasing status. If a selection is unavailable, the release list does not bypass that status. Review the actual order information when purchasing becomes available.
This DASH KIT version is for 1996–1998 Toyota 4Runners only. Versions for 1999 and later model years are planned for a future release and are not part of this version. No release date has been announced for those versions.
Confirm the vehicle year and chosen configuration before ordering.
No cutting or drilling is required, and the vehicle can be returned to its original configuration. These are installation considerations, not a substitute for kit-specific fitting instructions.
Check the vehicle year, radio selection and any optional charging equipment before starting. Customer-supplied radio compatibility is not guaranteed.
The included ducting supports the new vent position. Included wiring allows the hazard and defrost buttons to move either left of the driver or below the AC vents on the bezel. Bottom switches can move to different switch panels using custom mounts.
The DASH KIT does not require cutting or drilling. Follow the instructions for the kit and installed equipment, and keep the original components if you plan to return the vehicle to its original configuration.
The DASH KIT changes what’s possible in your Toyota’s interior. Our custom Android headunit software is the next part of that vision: bringing navigation, media, and trail tools together in an interface designed around how you use your vehicle.
Wired and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are fully supported on compatible headunits, giving you access to your phone’s navigation, music, calls, messages, and voice assistant right from the dashboard. Connect by USB or enjoy the convenience of a wireless connection.
We’re developing our custom interface to make the larger display feel like a purposeful part of your dashboard. Clear layouts, large controls, and consistent shortcuts give everyday driving and weekend exploring a shared home.
The Home screen brings that approach together with a map beside your media controls, plus shortcuts for phone link, radio, cameras, and saved places. Its dark Obsidian theme and colored navigation icons give your older Toyota a modern look that fits the character of the DASH KIT.
Navigation is one of the biggest reasons to upgrade your dashboard display. Our dedicated Map screen gives the route room to breathe, with a large map, readable directions, and easy access to map layers and position controls.
This preview shows a downloaded map around Crown King, Arizona—one of the areas we’ve used while developing the software. Offline mapping is a key part of the project, helping make downloaded map coverage useful when your adventures take you beyond a dependable phone connection.
With a bright daytime layout and a dark nighttime appearance, the interface is being developed for both the drive across town and the road toward your next campsite.
The Media screen brings playback controls and audio shortcuts into a dedicated layout that makes use of the larger display. Large play, pause, and track controls sit alongside a playback timeline, with space for track information when a supported media source provides it.
Shortcuts along the bottom bring phone tools, recent calls, equalizer, visual styles, and player options within reach. The ambient visualizer adds personality to the screen, carrying the same dark theme and colored accents used throughout the software.
Our goal is a more cohesive media experience, with a familiar layout as you move between listening, phone tools, and audio adjustments.
The Trail screen is where the software’s off-road focus comes together. Its split layout places the map beside a trip overview, keeping your route and trip tools visible on the same page.
The interface includes controls for recording a trip, marking a waypoint, and opening assigned camera apps. The trip overview provides space for speed, distance, elapsed time, elevation, heading, and GPS accuracy as the relevant data becomes available.
We’re developing this page around the things you want close at hand while exploring: seeing where you are, saving a place worth returning to, and keeping track of the journey. It’s another step toward making the DASH KIT a useful part of your adventures, from the daily drive to a weekend on the trail.
Software shown is a development preview. Final appearance, supported features, hardware compatibility, and release availability may change.
